Kira wanted to eliminate all criminals in the world to make it a better place, away from danger.
L wanted to stop Kira because it's inhuman (calling it a mass murder) and violates humans' right to be judged fair by each country's system.
What's more interesting is that they call themselves "Justice." Your beliefs matter where you stand, and it's just a matter of perspective. This is not about Kira and L.
